Unlucky or Just wrong? The Limits of Prediction in Political Campaigns

On the night of the election, my friends and I gathered around our television, wondering when we'd know for certain that Hillary Clinton would be our next president. We joked that we'd probably be able to go to sleep by midnight. Yet we couldn't have been more wrong. Like many other Democrats after the November election, I was plagued with two questions: Why couldn't we see Donald Trump's win coming? Or could we have, and was I just completely blind to some very obvious signs? This project attempts to look holistically at the 2016 election to understand the larger narrative.
